The Military Affairs Council of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii was honored to host a reception on February 17 to welcome to Hawaii U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Majority Whip and Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz, Congresswomen Tulsi Gabbard and Colleen Hanabusa, Governor Neil Abercrombie, Senate President Donna Kim, Senator Wil Espero, Representative Mark Takai and other government leaders were on hand to welcome Senator Durbin, along with Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Sherry Menor-McNamara, business leaders, top military officials and other partners.
Senator Durbin is visiting military commands in Hawaii to reconfirm the strategic value of forward deploying forces in Hawaii to deter armed conflicts and maintain peace and stability in the Asia Pacific, the inextricable link to stimulating growth in global commerce and trade.
