ONE AND DONE Membership Drive Challenges Each of the Chamber’s 1,000 Member Organizations to Bring in One Member to Reach Goal of 2,000 Members
HONOLULU (February 26, 2014) – The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii today launched ONE AND DONE, a drive to double its membership from 1,000 to 2,000 member organizations. The campaign challenges each of the Chamber’s 1,000 member organizations and all of their employees to bring in one new member, with a wide variety of prize awards as incentives to participate.
“For more than 163 years, the Chamber has been working on behalf of our members to advance the state’s economic climate and help businesses succeed. By joining the Chamber, members are investing in a thriving and dynamic future for Hawaii, which is why we set forth with an aggressive membership goal,” said Chamber President and CEO Sherry Menor-McNamara. “This membership drive was designed to get our members actively involved in achieving our goal of doubling our membership, from 1,000 to 2,000 member organizations. If every one of our 1,000 member organizations brings in just ONE new member, our campaign to double our membership is DONE, which is why we’re calling it our ONE AND DONE campaign. ”
ONE AND DONE is open to all Chamber of Commerce Hawaii member organizations and their employees, with prizes awarded depending upon the level of membership dues that a member brings in. Award levels start when a member brings in $500 in membership dues on up to $10,000+ in membership dues, with award values increasing accordingly. The campaign runs from February 26-June 30, 2014, with a grand prize drawing to be held at the Chamber’s annual membership luncheon on July 17, 2014. The grand prize includes a choice of:
- Paris in Fall: Roundtrip airfare for 2 and 4-night stay at The Westin Paris – Vendome
- History of Rome: Roundtrip airfare for 2 and 4-night stay at The Westin Excelsior Rome
- Tokyo in Autumn: Roundtrip airfare for 2, 5-night stay at the Shinagawa prince Hotel and two 7-day rail passes
Chamber members supporting ONE AND DONE with awards include Big Island Candies, DFS, Double Tree by Hilton Alana Waikiki Hotel, Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, Ilima Hotel, Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts, Morton’s the Steakhouse Honolulu, Soul de Cuba Café, The Modern Honolulu, United Airlines and Vivint Solar.
To kick off the campaign, the Chamber is introducing “COCHi,” the campaign’s goat mascot. Why a goat? In 1949, the Chamber held a membership campaign where each board member was responsible for taking care of a live goat, dubbed “Gloomy Goat,” until he or she recruited a new member. Once a member was recruited, the board member passed Gloomy on to the next board member for caretaking until he or she recruited a member.
Honoring that history, the Chamber embarked on a worldwide (Internet) search for a life-sized replica of Gloomy and found COCHi in Texas. This time around, each of the Chamber’s board members has to house COCHi in his/her office until each is able to recruit a new member, after which COCHi is delivered to the next board member, until all board members have recruited, at least, one new member. COCHi is an abbreviated version of the Chamber name and is pronounced “ko-chi.”
