Kristi Yamaguchi’s Golden Moment Hawaii is returning with world-renowned actress and singer Lea Salonga. Salonga will join Yamaguchi and an all-star team of figure skating champions in an all-new production of Golden Moment. This two-day “concert on ice” raises awareness and funds to support early childhood literacy in Hawaii. Show times are Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Blaisdell arena. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster and the Blaisdell Center Box Office.
The skating extravaganza will be choreographed to live performances by Tony Award-winning Salonga in addition to a few local artists. Olympic gold medalists taking the ice include Kristi Yamaguchi, Brian Boitano, Meryl Davis & Charlie White, Ekaterina Gordeeva and Shizuka Arakawa as well as bronze medalist Daisuke Takahashi.
An accomplished children’s book author and mother of two, Yamaguchi’s passion for reading ignited the Always Dream Foundation (ADF)’s commitment to early childhood literacy in 1996. Golden Moment is a project of ADF, which supports early childhood literacy in Hawaii’s Title 1 schools. Golden Moment was first brought to Hawaii in November 2015 and raised more than $200,000 that stayed in Hawaii. To date the program serves more than 400 kindergarten students at seven elementary schools on Oahu: Kalihi-Kai, Linapuni, Fern, Puuhale, Waiahole, Pope and Kalihi.
