HONOLULU-The Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA-Hawaii) will hold its third housing summit on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in the Pomaikai Ballroom at Dole Cannery from 8:00 a.m. to noon. This informative session will include panel discussions and presentations by experts well versed on local housing issues.

Previously called “Houseless in Honolulu,” the event covered issues and concerns over the lack of housing in Honolulu however, this year, the summit has been expanded to address the housing crisis Statewide.

This year’s Summit, “Still Houseless in Hawaii: A Sensible Way Forward,” will focus on the decisions and circumstances that lead us to our current housing crisis and segue into discussions on opportunities that we currently have to build more housing at the County level. Mayors and representatives from all four Counties will participate in a full panel on the topic. The event will also dive deep into a current successful affordable housing project created through a collaboration between the public and private sectors, and real-life examples of policies from other States that have prioritized the production of housing. The summit seeks to move the conversation forward and address the acute housing need felt throughout the State.

California State Senator, Scott Wiener, author of Bill 35, part of an innovative affordable housing package that was recently signed into law by California Governor Jerry Brown, will speak on reaching housing production goals, funding, project streamlining, enforcement, and accountability.
Cost to attend is $95.00 for BIA-Hawaii members and partner organizations, $125 for non-members and $135 for walk-ins. Student participation is highly encouraged $45.00 for students and teachers is available (must provide a valid student ID). Register online at www.biahawaii.org.
