Job Summary:
Under the general supervision and direction of the CEO & President, will work on advocacy and policy at the Hawaii State Legislature, City Council and, possibly, federal and other counties.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Required:
- BA degree
- Proficiency using PC computers, Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to create a positive impression of the Chamber by phone, email and in person
Essential/Primary Job Duties (other duties may be assigned):
- Draft testimony, legislative documents, fact sheets, policy-related talking points and other documents
- Research, analyze and provide memorandums on legislative issues
- Assist in reviewing all bills at the beginning of the legislative session
- Track bills, monitor hearings, meet with legislators and City Council and testify at hearings
- Provide logistical support in the planning and execution of legislative activities, workshops and other related events
- Attend legislative and other government affairs-related events
- Oversee policy committees
- Develop legislative strategy
- Manage and execute non-legislative initiatives such as business development, manufacturing in Hawaii and other grant-related opportunities
- Attend provide assistance and support to the Event’s staff at general events and activities of the Chamber
- Other duties as assigned
Other Requirements:
- Normal business hours, with some early morning, evening and weekend hours
- Able to lift 25 pounds
