ENGINEERING K-CAREER PATHWAY PROJECT

Through industry and education collaboration, the Engineering K to Career Pathway Project is building a streamlined and connected cradle-to-career STEM and engineering talent pipeline for Hawaii. Our goal is to improve student preparedness and increase the overall number of students in the pipeline to better meet the future demand for engineers in Hawai’i.

The pilot program officially launched in February 2021 with the Campbell, Castle and Waipahu complexes. Educators and engineering professionals are creating meaningful work-based learning opportunities that lead students to fulfilling careers in the state. High-priority focus areas for the partnerships are:

Career Awareness

Exposure to career paths in the STEM/Engineering industry, with awareness opportunities for students and parents beginning in elementary school.

Increasing Interest of Girls in STEM

Developing a sequence of opportunities for girls to gain exposure to STEM and engineering careers.

Math Readiness

Exposing students to the math requirements needed to stay on track in the K-12 pipeline and meet university engineering requirements.

Internships, Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Educator Professional Development opportunities
will be foundational elements across the first three priorities.
