HONOLULU—On Friday, September 9 at 10 a.m., Kaimuki Christian School hosted a blessing ceremony and dedication to welcome a $4.2-million educational center as part of its ambitious plans to expand its offerings, accommodate a larger student body, and create more affordable private school options in Honolulu. The Kaimuki campus exceeds two acres and serves 296 students from Preschool to 12th Grade.

The September 9 blessing ceremony and dedication of the Clarence T.C. Ching Educational Center signified the completion of the first segment of the second phase of Kaimuki Christian Church and School’s master plan for its campus. Highlights of the new education center include rooms that are wired for technology with computer stations, Apple TV, Wi-Fi access and mobile tablet access for every child. In addition, the new center will accommodate administrative offices, teacher work space and a tutorial room where students can learn in small group sessions or one-on-one. Other rooms will include a music center, art education and second grade learning, which, as is the case with all grades from 1st through 12th, includes Mandarin as part of its curriculum.

“There is a great need for quality, values-based education in which students are prepared for college and a highly competitive world,” says Kaimuki Christian School Principal Mark Gallagher. “This center will enable access for more students to obtain a quality education in urban Honolulu.”

The educational center has been part of Kaimuki Christian School’s master plan in which seven nearby properties have been acquired over the past 18 years.

The Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation contributed $1.5 million towards the education center. Other funders include First Hawaiian Bank, which contributed $25,000, and the Atherton Foundation (through Hawaii Community Foundation) provided $50,000.

The center was designed by Group 70 International. Construction of the next phase of the master plan, with six additional classrooms, is scheduled to begin within the next two years.
