HEMIC

Marty is the Chief Executive Officer of Hawaii Employers Mutual Insurance Company (HEMIC), the largest writer of Workers’ Compensation insurance in the state of Hawaii. HEMIC operates primarily as a competitive, voluntary market insurer, but also serves the State of Hawaii’s guaranteed market for workers’ compensation. HEMIC insures over 6,500 Hawaii businesses, who employ over 75,000 workers.

Prior to joining HEMIC in 2012, Marty served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Employers Holdings, Inc., a multi-state Workers Compensation carrier, based in Reno, NV. While at Employers, Marty drove the formulation and implementation of on-line quoting, binding and policy issuance capabilities for small market workers compensation customers, led the strategic integration and operational synergy of a $200 million acquisition, and played a key role in Employers’ demutualization and initial public offering strategy.

Before that, Marty spent 25 years with the former Wausau Insurance Companies in various underwriting, operational and leadership positions for the national, multi-line insurance organization.

Marty currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and is Chairman of the Board for the Arthritis Foundation of Hawaii. He also serves on the Governing Board for the Property Casualty Insurance Association of America, the P&C insurance industry’s largest trade association.
