Question and Answer with Diana
What is your preferred communication style when mentoring (in-person, video conference, phone, informal check-ins, structured meetings, etc.)?
In-Person, Video Conference, Email, Text / SMS. Text is my go-to for ongoing, quick communications.
Why do you want to become a mentor in this program?
Mentoring others is one of my passions. I’ve been so fortunate to have amazing mentors in my career and sharing some of my experiences and perspectives with others in hopes of helping them, is one of my favorite ways to spend my time.
What specific skills, knowledge or experience can you share with your mentee?
My super power is seeing and understanding relationships and human dynamics. I’m happy to share my experience on management, leadership, communication, giving / receiving feedback, and career growth & progression. I have experience working for good & bad managers, in the start-up world, in finance, the corporate world, and now in a family run business. I’m sharing all of this experience if it will help someone else.
What are your expectations for a mentor-mentee relationship?
Ideally I’d love to develop a long-term ongoing mentoring relationship and ideally would love to get as much learning from my mentee as they get from me. I’m a huge fan of “reverse mentoring”.
How do you approach problem-solving and conflict resolution?
I’m very direct and am not afraid of conflict. Like most people, I find conflict uncomfortable but I also believe that addressing directly is always worth it. For problem-solving I’m a bit fan of principle-based problem-solving and encourage folks to identify core principles they want to solve for and then problem-solve around those. Also always like working around “worst case scenario” – what’s the absolute worst that can happen in this situation?
How do you envision success for your mentee, and how will you measure it during the program?
The degree of trust we build, the ease of our conversations, the comfort they have calling or texting me with a request for real-time support or guidance.
