About Sharilyn
Sharilyn Tanaka is a Executive Vice President of Personal Lines and Independent Agents. She partners with individual clients, Mortgage Lenders, Realtors, Financial Advisors, Wealth Managers to protect their own personal assets and those of their clients through insurance. After 20 years of working in the Insurance Industry, Sharilyn guides her clients toward an Insurance solution that fits their needs and budget. It is Sharilyn’s professionalism, positivity, and sincerity that has gained the respect of her peers as she was awarded the Thanks, Ah Award which was voted on by her peers. She has been interviewed on KHON and Hawaii News Now, along with articles in the Pacific Business News Magazine, Independent Agent Magazine, and national insurance publications. She is a graduate of the Patsy T Mink Leadership Alliance Cohort 3, Tradewind Group Leadership Development Program Cohort 1 and she was an honoree of the 2020 40 Under 40. In addition to her professional commitment, Sharilyn is also active in the community as she serves on the Board of Directors for the YWCA, Hawaii Homeownership Center, and the Hawaii Independent Insurance Agent Council.
Sharilyn holds a BA in English and Speech from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She also holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter Designation.

Why do you want to become a mentor in this program?
When I am able to help someone achieve their goals and to be part of that journey is such a fulfilling experience.
What specific skills, knowledge or experience can you share with your mentee?
I can offer soft skills help and sales strategies.
What are your expectations for a mentor-mentee relationship?
As a mentor, I will always give my full attention to the mentee. As a mentee, it is helpful if the individual is prepared with questions and has an agenda in place to keep the meeting focused and beneficial for both parties.
How do you approach problem-solving and conflict resolution?
Active listening has always been the best approach for conflict resolution which allows the other person to be heard.
How do you envision success for your mentee, and how will you measure it during the program?
Success would be measured by the mentee receiving what they expected to receive from this relationship and hopefully they were able to meet their desired goals.
