KHON2 News: The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii awards $100k to public health funds

HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii has awarded $100,000 in public health funds to five selected Oahu nonprofit organizations, supporting community health and well-being.

The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii has proudly served the Hawaii business community for 175 years. Not only did they help shape Hawaii’s economic landscape, but they also launched key organizations, including Blood Bank of Hawaii and Crime Stoppers Honolulu.

Here are some organizations that have been funded and supported in 2024: 

  • Susannah Wesley Community Center: Free food pantry and support services in Kalihi
  • iBounce Up: Mental health training for at-risk youth in Honolulu
  • Domestic Violence Action Center: Workshops for domestic violence survivors
  • Boys to Men Hawaii: Mentoring and coaching for at-risk youth in Honolulu
  • Waimanalo Health Center: Medical and Dental Assistant training program

“Through the Public Health Fund, we’re proud to support local nonprofits making a lasting difference by strengthening families, uplifting neighborhoods and building a healthier future for Hawaii,” said Sherry Menor, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii. “When we invest in the well-being of our people, we’re investing in the resilience and prosperity of our entire state.”

The Public Health Fund provides Oahu-based nonprofit organizations with health-related education and research. Every year, the PHF Advisory Committee reviews applications and recommends recipients to the Chamber’s Board of Directors for final approval.
