MidWeek Honolulu Voice: Support For Small Businesses

March 4, 2026

The Hawai‘i Technology Development Corp., in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i, is seeking eligible businesses and legal, financial and accounting experts, including those from Honolulu, for BizBoost. Biz-Boost is a program providing small businesses across the islands with free expert guidance to grow and access capital.

“As someone whose mom was a small-business owner, I know how hard our local entrepreneurs work to keep their dreams alive,” states Sherry Menor, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i. “Programs like BizBoost put trusted guidance directly into the hands of small businesses, helping them navigate challenges and grow, whether accessing capital, managing finances, or leveraging new technologies. This aligns with our ongoing work to reduce regulatory barriers, expand micro-lending, and strengthen innovation programs. Hawai‘i’s entrepreneurs need these tools and support to succeed amid rising costs and workforce challenges, no matter where they are in our state.”

The program aims to serve rural, underserved and socially and economically disadvantaged- owned businesses (at least 51% minority owned or those in rural areas) by removing barriers to government programs, grants and loan programs. It is available at no cost to eligible businesses. Support is provided through a statewide network of local chambers, economic development boards, and approved technical assistance providers in the areas of legal, financial and accounting.

The program also supports small-business owners without traditional banking access, and immigrant-owned businesses who may need assistance in their preferred language. A key component is the BizBoost Marketplace, where businesses can connect to vetted providers and partners.
