KAUA‘I, HI – Small businesses on Kaua‘i impacted by Hurricane Lowell will soon have access to $2 million in direct financial assistance through the Kaua‘i Hurricane Lowell Business Recovery Grant, a new grant program of the State of Hawai‘i through the Hawai‘i Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) and administered by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.
Applications are now open, with eligible businesses and nonprofits able to apply for one-time grants of $5,000 or $10,000 to help address economic or physical impacts caused by Hurricane Lowell on September 7-8, 2026.
Applications will be reviewed and approved on a first-come, first-served basis, with grants awarded in the order applications are received and approved until all available funds have been exhausted.
“Small businesses and nonprofits on Kaua‘i are working to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Lowell, and this funding can provide important support as they address storm-related damage and disruptions,” says Sherry Menor, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii. “We are grateful to the state for moving quickly to make these resources available and encourage eligible businesses to apply. Helping businesses recover today is an important part of building resilience for tomorrow, and this experience also reinforces the need to do more proactively to help businesses prepare for and mitigate the impacts of future disasters. Building that kind of long-term resilience is an important part of the 2030 Blueprint for Hawaii and our collective work to strengthen our economy.”
The program is designed to provide assistance to Kaua‘i’s non-agricultural small businesses and nonprofits that experienced material economic or physical harm directly caused by Hurricane Lowell. A full list of requirements for both small businesses and nonprofits is available online at kauaibusinessrecovery.org.
