Hawaii News Now: $3M in storm relief grants open for Oahu small businesses

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – More than $3 million in relief is now available to O’ahu small businesses impacted by the Kona low storms from March 10 to 23.

The state-funded Oahu Kona Low Business Recovery program offers one-time grants of $5,000 or $10,000 to eligible businesses.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds run out.

The new Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) program is being administered by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.

“We encourage that once it opens that businesses look it up, get all the resources, the information so that they can get this process started,” said Sherry Menor, COC Hawaii president and CEO.

Business owners must show the storm’s unmet physical or economic damage not covered by outside relief through photos, repair estimates and records.

To qualify, applicants must fit the following criteria:

  • A non-agricultural, for-profit businesses operating on O’ahu
  • Registered with the DCCA before March 10, 2026.
  • Fewer than 500 employees
  • Less than $5 million in annual revenue
  • At least one Hawaii-resident owner
  • Be current on all taxes

Applications open on Sept. 9.
